Red Road

£300.00

Red Road was the name of a high rise estate in Glasgow that has long since been demolished.

The place had a surreal oppressive quality, with monolithic buildings jutting out of the flat lands that surrounded them, towering over the adjacent streets. One of the structures was both tall and thin, giving it an unsettling quality that it could topple over at any minute. It reminded me of a giant flat screen television, so I created a painting that appears like TV static on its surface.

To create the shimmering quality that static has on old televisions, I used various shades of black, and a variety of different textures. This creates the illusion of the face of the building appearing to float and shimmer like fluorescent light in darkness. This effect can only really be seen in person.

  • Original mixed media painting

  • Acrylic x Ink x Canvas Board

  • 300 × 300 mm
